Like many of us I find myself running around like a blue-arsed fly. I’m forever trying to get the balance right – good food, exercise, work, kids, sleep and the holy grail of working mums everywhere, some of that all important downtime. I know all about mindfulness & try to spend some time doing bugger all without feeling guilty that I should get of my lazy arse. Mindfulness is so on trend at the moment with relaxing being declared the new hustle but it’s really not as easy as it seems. But at least I’m trying, right? And I think that matters.
At the ripe old age of 42, I don’t need to prove myself through being busy. I sometimes really do feel that some people wear busyness, tiredness and stress as badges of honour. They’re not. I know that I’m usually busy, tired or stressed because of a lack of organisation or wanting to try to do everything (burning the candle at both ends, moi?). But being busy is something I’m trying to change. As I mentioned in my last blog post, no one wants ‘was really busy’ on their gravestone.
So how am I trying to get the balance right? Well the key for me is to get up earlier. I’m not naturally a morning person but better sleeping habits, mixed with early nights and no booze has allowed me to get up much much earlier. In the twilight hours I can either be found moving my old bones at the gym (still a struggle) or catching up on dreaded work tasks I’ve been putting off for ages (database management has been on my to do list for the last two years. It’s still a bugger of a job but it’s getting smaller thanks to those extra hours).
But I have a secret weapon up my sleeve, a powder that’s giving me power. And no, it’s not that kind of powder! It’s Argi+, from the Forever Living camp. I really do think that’s it’s making a difference to my energy levels, which at this time of the year are usually flagging, big time.
Argi+ contains both L’Arginine (an amino acid) and also a range of super fruits such as pomegranate (a powerful antioxidant), red wine extract (well I have to get my red wine fix somewhere!) and grape skin (known for supporting the immune and for cardiovascular system). It also contains sweeteners. A fact I’m sweeping over as I’ve cut out refined sugar from most of my diet so the sweet-kick it gives me when I drink it really is my hit for the day. And we can’t get everything right all of the time can we?
L-Arginine is so powerful that’s it’s sometimes referred to as the ‘Miracle Molecule’. Our bodies convert L-Arginine into nitric oxide, a molecule that helps blood vessels relax and open wide for greater blood flow. Great for people like me trying to get busy in the gym.
I mix a scoop with water and make a long drink out of it or stick it in my green smoothie post work-out. The fruits make it taste great, unlike the Aloe gel I’ve tried from Forever Living (I felt brilliant on it but it tasted vile).
As well as giving myself a dose of anti-oxident goodness I also do feel better after I exercise. I usually drink mine when I get home from the gym and my muscle are thanking me for it. I can just about walk down the stairs the day after a session of squats and lunges, rather than having to do a bottom shuffle!
For now I need all the help I can get. 5.15am starts can literally stop me in my tracks come 3.45pm when the kids arrive home. But Argi+ is helping me motor through so that when the evening comes I can get a dose of the downtime we all want and need.
How are you getting the balance right? Or, let me rephrase, how are you trying to get the balance right? It’s something I’m constantly trying, refining and changing. I don’t think I’ll ever get it right but I’m working on it.
Have a great day!
